Today at St. James’

¨      Welcome!  No matter who you are, or where you are in your faith journey, you are welcome here. After the service, please join us in the Parish Hall for a cup of coffee or — weather permitting — outside the Bell Tower for lemonade and iced tea.

¨      Adult Forum, Sunday School, and Youth Groups have ended for the program year, and will return in the fall.  We will honor and thank our teachers on Sunday, June 15. Sunday school will resume in September; Children’s Chapel carries on throughout the summer. Many, many thanks to all of our teachers and chapel leaders!

Next Sunday, June 1

¨      Newcomers’ Coffee:  Please join us for a “Welcome to St. James’” coffee on Sunday, June 1, at 10:15 a.m. in the Janney Parlor.  This is your opportunity to meet clergy and fellow parishioners, ask your questions and receive a welcome packet.

Sunday, June 8

¨      Newcomers’ Orientation:  We invite newcomers to join us on Sunday, June 8, from 10:10 to 11:00 a.m. in the Janney Parlor for a brief introduction to St. James’. You’ll have an opportunity to ask questions, meet other newcomers, and have a brief tour of the buildings in which we worship and gather.

Episcopal Relief and Development has been working in Burma (a.k.a. “Myanmar”) for several years. With our Anglican and ecumenical partners we are providing emergency food and shelter in the aftermath of the devastating storm. Once the immediate crisis has passed, Episcopal Relief and Development will work with our partners to develop and implement long-term recovery plans. If you wish to make a donation, make your check payable to Episcopal Relief and Development/Myanmar & Cyclone Response Fund, and mail to: PO Box 7058 Merrifield, VA 22116. To make a credit card donation, please call (800)334-7626, ext. 5129.

What’s happening at St. James

¨      Join the St. James’ Book Club when we discuss Water for Elephants, Sara Gruen’s moving tale of life and love under the Big Top in Depression-era America.  We will meet on Thursday, June 12, at 7:00 p.m. in the Janney Parlor.  All are welcome!  Please bring a snack or beverage to share.  Contact Mary Pellicano through the Church Office for more information.

¨      Senior Saints Luncheon:  Please join the Pastoral Associates at their annual Senior Saints Luncheon on Wednesday, June 18, in the Parish Hall.  There will be a social hour at 12:30 p.m. and lunch will be served at 1:00 p.m.  If you are planning to come, it would be helpful if you would call the church office at (703)777-1124 by June 13.  All are welcome.  This is always a special event!

¨      St. Gabriel’s Saturday Night Service (5:30 p.m.) St. James’ Nave.

¨      The Contemplative Prayer Group meets in the Nave every Monday and Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.

¨      Vacation Bible School—July 14-18: Once again, we will be teaming with Leesburg Presbyterian Church. Registration forms are now available in the Narthex and on our website at www.stjamesleesburg.org. VBS does tend to fill, but parishioners are given first priority until May 25. Sign up soon!

¨      Pastoral Care: Expecting a baby? Having scheduled or unscheduled surgery? Recovering at home or in a nursing/rehab center? Fr. John, Rev. Kate, and Pastor Mary visit parishioners in these and other situations to pray with them. If you would like a clergy visit, contact the Church Office at (703)-777-1124.

¨      Looking Sharp! The Photo Directories are due to be delivered at the end of this month.

¨      Donate Used Cell Phones to a Worthy Cause:  Have you recently upgraded to a smartphone and wondered what to do with your old cell phone?  A Loudoun Abused Women’s Shelter (LAWS) client can make good use of it (and its charger) and you can receive credit for a tax-deductible donation.  Used cell phones can be mailed to or dropped off at LAWS at 105 East Market Street, Leesburg, VA 20176.  For more information, call (703)777-6552.

¨      “Behind the Scenes” at Washington National Cathedral: You now have special opportunity to see Washington National Cathedral from a unique perspective, thanks to a seminary classmate of Rev. Kate’s, the Rev. Rob Boulter, a priest who specializes in liturgy there. On Saturday, June 14, meet in the St. James’ parking lot at 10:30 a.m. to carpool to the Cathedral. Rob’s tour will run from 12:00 Noon to 2:00 p.m. Afterwards, we’ll gather for afternoon tea. Suggested donation to the Cathedral: $5 (excludes parking fee of $4). This event is open to parishioners of all ages, but space is limited. Register with Rev. Kate at (703)777-1124 or kate@stjamesleesburg.org by Friday, June 6.
