Today at St. James’
¨
Adult Forum: Join Rev. Kate for the third in a new
five-part Bible study series, “What’s the first thing Jesus says after he’s
raised from the dead?” Shall we
really end Mark’s story with “They said nothing to anyone, for they were
afraid?” Or would a charge to be “snake-handling, poison-drinking,
tongue-speaking followers” be better?
10:10 a.m. in the Old School Building at the corner of Wirt and North
Streets.
¨

various design plans is available in the Narthex and will be available on our
website, or you may contact the

What’s Going On at St. James’
Youth Groups:
¨
Youth Mission Shares: The
youth are selling shares in their summer mission trips to North Carolina,
Liberia, West Virginia, and Mississippi. Shares cost $10 a
piece, and all proceeds go to mission. As a shareholder, you will
receive a postcard from the youth on their mission site, and you will be
invited to our shareholders’ dinner in August. Please stop by the table in the
Narthex to purchase shares.
¨
Youth Mission Fundraising Dinner: On Friday, April 25, at 7:00 p.m., the youth who are going on a
summer mission trip to Liberia will be servers at a fundraising dinner hosted
by L’Auberge Chez Francois in Great Falls, VA, in a
private room that seats 50 people. L’Auberge Chez
Francois is a five star restaurant owned by the Haeringer
family. The cost per person is $150, which includes a six course meal,
beverages, and gratuity. $100 of the cost is tax deductible. If you’d like to
join us, please sign up with the Church
Office by calling (703)777-1124.
¨
Parents’ Night Out! On
Saturday, April 26, from 6:00-10:00 p.m., the youth of St. James’ will
be providing a night of childcare as a mission trip fundraiser. Babysitting is
provided for infants-5th graders. Donations are accepted and encouraged—we ask
that families pay the youth whatever they’d normally pay a babysitter for a
night out! To sign up, contact Pastor
Mary.

second annual Breast Cancer Awareness
Walk. We will start at St. John’s Catholic Church (across from Ida
Lee Park) between 8:00 and 11:00 a.m. for a 3- or 6-mile (your choice) paved

Put Some Meaning Behind Your Spring Cleaning: We
have a special opportunity to help a fellow St. James’ family, the Rombachs, whose daughter, Shelby, has Cystic Fibrosis. Although there is not yet
a cure for CF, you can help make a difference.
The Rombachs are organizing a “Kids Stuff Only” yard sale on May
3. Donations of gently used toys
(which Salvation Army will no longer take) clothes, books, sports equipment,
etc. will be collected. All money raised will go to help cure Cystic Fibrosis. Items can be dropped off on the stage in
Parish Hall through May 2. Flyers with details of the yard sale are on
stage in the Parish Hall.
¨
The St. James’ Book Club will
discuss Dance of the Dissident Daughter on Thursday, May 8, at
7:00 p.m. Join us in the Janney Parlor as we explore author Sue Monk Kidd’s
inspirational story of spiritual awakening and transformation. Please bring a snack or beverage to
share. Contact Mary Pellicano
through the Church Office for
more information. (Want to get a head start on next month’s book? We’ll be reading Water for Elephants
in June.)
