Today at St. James’

¨      Adult Forum:  Join Rev. Kate for the third in a new five-part Bible study series, “What’s the first thing Jesus says after he’s raised from the dead?”  Shall we really end Mark’s story with “They said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid?” Or would a charge to be “snake-handling, poison-drinking, tongue-speaking followers” be better?  10:10 a.m. in the Old School Building at the corner of Wirt and North Streets.

¨      Discovering St. James’:  The “Discovering St. James’” class concludes TODAY from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Old School Building.  A light lunch will be provided, and childcare will be available.

¨      Sunday School:  3-Year-Olds meet in Rittenhouse Room R1; 4-Year-Olds meet in Janney House Room J2; Kindergarten meets in Janney House Room J1; 1st Grade meets in Rittenhouse Room R3; 2nd & 4th Grades meet in Parish Hall; 3rd Grade meets in Parish Library; 5th Grade & Middle School meet in the Old School Building; Senior High will meet in the Catacombs.

¨      Extended Healing Rail:  The Healing Team will offer an extended healing rail today immediately after the 11:15 a.m. service.  Please come for your own needs or as an intercessor for those you have on your heart or mind.  All are welcome.

¨      Youth Groups:  Youth Groups will go to Woody’s Golf Range for Putt Putt!  Please meet at St. James’ at 2:30 p.m.; we do need a few parent drivers. If it is raining, we will go on Sunday, April 27, instead. Cost is $9.25.

Notice of Congregational Meeting: Please plan to attend a Congregational Meeting on Sunday, May 4, at 10:00 a.m., in the Nave. At this Congregational Meeting, members of St. James’ will consider and vote on a design plan for the parking lot to be constructed in the 2010-2012 timeframe. Information about the various design plans is available in the Narthex and will be available on our website, or you may contact the clergy or any member of the Vestry.

What’s Going On at St. James

Youth Groups:

¨      Youth Mission Shares: The youth are selling shares in their summer mission trips to North Carolina, Liberia, West Virginia, and Mississippi. Shares cost $10 a piece, and all proceeds go to mission. As a shareholder, you will receive a postcard from the youth on their mission site, and you will be invited to our shareholders’ dinner in August. Please stop by the table in the Narthex to purchase shares.

¨      Youth Mission Fundraising Dinner: On Friday, April 25, at 7:00 p.m., the youth who are going on a summer mission trip to Liberia will be servers at a fundraising dinner hosted by L’Auberge Chez Francois in Great Falls, VA, in a private room that seats 50 people. L’Auberge Chez Francois is a five star restaurant owned by the Haeringer family. The cost per person is $150, which includes a six course meal, beverages, and gratuity. $100 of the cost is tax deductible. If you’d like to join us, please sign up with the Church Office by calling (703)777-1124.

¨      Parents’ Night Out! On Saturday, April 26, from 6:00-10:00 p.m., the youth of St. James’ will be providing a night of childcare as a mission trip fundraiser. Babysitting is provided for infants-5th graders. Donations are accepted and encouraged—we ask that families pay the youth whatever they’d normally pay a babysitter for a night out! To sign up, contact Pastor Mary.

Classes:

¨      Exploring the Episcopal Church:  If you have been baptized but never confirmed and would like to be, or if you were baptized as a Christian and confirmed in another denomination and wish to be received into the Episcopal Church, please sign up for “Exploring the Episcopal Church.”  This class will be held on Sunday, April 27, and Sunday, May 4, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Old School Building, and on Saturday, May 17, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 Noon, in the Parish Hall. Bishop David Jones will visit St. James’ on Sunday, May 18, for Confirmations and Receptions.  Contact Rev. Kate to sign up for this class.

Get Involved:

¨      The Contemplative Prayer Group meets in the Nave every Monday and Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.

¨      Please join the Loudoun Breast Health Network (LBHN) and the Loudoun Walking and Volksmarch Club on Saturday, April 26, for our second annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk. We will start at St. John’s Catholic Church (across from Ida Lee Park) between 8:00 and 11:00 a.m. for a 3- or 6-mile (your choice) paved route around Leesburg suitable for all ages. The walk is free, but donations to the all volunteer LBHN are enthusiastically encouraged. For information contact Nancy Ryan, (LBHN) at 703-327-4646 or nancyaldie@aol.com.

¨      Put Some Meaning Behind Your Spring Cleaning:  We have a special opportunity to help a fellow St. James’ family, the Rombachs, whose daughter, Shelby, has Cystic Fibrosis.  Although there is not yet a cure for CF, you can help make a difference.  The Rombachs are organizing a “Kids Stuff Only” yard sale on May 3.  Donations of gently used toys (which Salvation Army will no longer take) clothes, books, sports equipment, etc. will be collected. All money raised will go to help cure Cystic Fibrosis.  Items can be dropped off on the stage in Parish Hall through May 2. Flyers with details of the yard sale are on stage in the Parish Hall.

¨      The St. James’ Book Club will discuss Dance of the Dissident Daughter on Thursday, May 8, at 7:00 p.m.  Join us in the Janney Parlor as we explore author Sue Monk Kidd’s inspirational story of spiritual awakening and transformation.  Please bring a snack or beverage to share.  Contact Mary Pellicano through the Church Office for more information. (Want to get a head start on next month’s book?  We’ll be reading Water for Elephants in June.)

¨      Help beautify the altar:  The Altar Guild will conduct a flower arranging class on Saturday, May 24, at 9:00 a.m. in the Sacristy for anyone who would like to join Altar Guild and become a flower arranger.  Altar Guild also take care of the tableware, linens, and cleaning in the Sanctuary, as well as clean-up and set-up in-between the Sunday services.  We have four teams, each responsible for one week of each month.  If you are interested, please contact the Church Office at (703)777-1124.
