Please plan to attend an important Congregational Meeting on Sunday, March 30, at 10:00 a.m., in the Nave. At this Congregational Meeting, members of St. James’ will be voting on two matters:

A motion to take advantage of recent lower interest rates by approving the refinancing of the King Street properties; and

A motion to approve one of two design plans of the parking lot to be constructed in the 2010-12 timeframe.

“WHAT THE BIBLE REALLY SAYS ABOUT_____” Join Fr. John and Fr. Goodness as they conclude our series, “What the Bible Really Says About____.” 10:10 a.m. in the Old School Building at the corner of Wirt and North Streets.

WELCOME, NEWCOMERS! Join us for our NEWCOMERS ORIENTATION, a brief introduction to St. James’ where you can ask questions, meet other newcomers, and have a brief tour of the buildings in which we worship and gather. 10:00 a.m. in the Janney Parlor.

SUNDAY SCHOOL: 3-Year-Olds meet in Rittenhouse Room R1; 4-Year-Olds meet in Janney House Room J2; Kindergarten meets in Janney House Room J1; 1st Grade meets in Rittenhouse Room R3; 2nd & 4th Grades meet in Parish Hall; 3rd Grade meets in Parish Library; 5th Grade & Middle School meet in the Old School Building; Senior High will meet in the Catacombs

YOUTH GROUPS: Middle School and Senior High: There is no Youth Group today due to Spring Break. Youth Group will resume on March 30.

CLASSES & WORKSHOPS:

INTRODUCTORY WORKSHOP ON CENTERING PRAYER: All are welcome to participate in this workshop presented by Contemplative Outreach of Metro Washington on Saturday, April 5, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the St. James’ Parish Hall. Registration is required by Wednesday, April 2, and a $15 donation is suggested. For more information, please see the flyer on the table at the back of the church.

"DISCOVERING ST. JAMES’": Interested in becoming a member of St. James’? Then this class is for you. Held once in the spring, and once in the fall, “Discovering St. James’” will be held on three consecutive Sundays: April 6, April 13, and April 20, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the new Parish House (former Rectory) located at 8 Cornwall Street, adjacent to the Janney House. "EXPLORING THE EPISCOPAL CHURCH": Bishop David Jones will visit St. James’ on Sunday, May 18, for Confirmations and Receptions. If you have been baptized but never been confirmed, or have been baptized as a Christian and confirmed in another denomination and wish to be received into the Episcopal Church, please sign up for “Exploring the Episcopal Church.” This three-part class, taught by Fr. John and Rev. Kate, will be held on Sunday, April 27, and Sunday, May 4, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and on Saturday, May 17, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 Noon in the Parish House (former Rectory). GROUP ACTIVITES:

PIZZA WITH A PURPOSE will not meet on Wednesday, March 19, because of Holy Week and Spring Break.

HANDS-ON OUTREACH: The Hands-On Outreach team is investigating how we might create a literacy/arts program and turn it into a St. James’ outreach opportunity. Please join us for dessert and coffee on Wednesday, March 29, at 7:00 p.m. to discuss this exciting idea. Contact Dina Bessa through the Church Office at (703)777-1124 for more information.

SPRING CLEAN UP DAY IS COMING! Come join George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Barack Obama, the New York Yankees, and the Property Committee at the 99th Annual St. James’ Spring Clean-up Day (well, maybe not the 99th) on Saturday, April 12, starting at 8:30 a.m. Celebrities will sign autographs for everyone bringing a rake, work gloves, and a real desire to work. Fabulous refreshments will be provided. See you on April 12!

DO YOU HAVE A KNACK WITH FLOWERS? The Altar Guild will be offering a class on how to arrange flowers for the altar for anyone interested in joining the Altar Guild and becoming a flower arranger. There are experienced flower arrangers on all teams who will continue to work with you until you are ready to solo. If interested, contact Kathleen White through the Church Office at (703)777-1124.
KIDS WITH PURPOSE are out to “change” the world… and we mean change. We are collecting donations through March 12 for a Home Depot gift card to help victims of Hurricane Katrina that will be sent with the St. James’ mission trip. If you have loose change that you would like to contribute, please find our bank located in the Narthex.

YOUTH GROUPS:

Our Middle Schoolers will be taking a MISSION TRIP to Jarret, VA, April 11 & 12. Friday, April 11, is a public school holiday. We will be building and planting a garden at the Jackson-Feild home for girls. If you are interested in joining us as a youth missioner or adult sponsor, please contact Pastor Mary.

All Middle Schoolers are invited to be readers in the GOOD FRIDAY STATIONS OF THE CROSS service at 6:00 p.m. If you would like to have a reading part, please contact Pastor Mary.

SENIOR HIGH WEEKEND AT SHRINE MONT is March 28-30. If you’d like to join us for a weekend of singing, hanging out, playing, and hiking, please contact Pastor Mary. Cost is $120, and scholarships are available.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

SHRINE MONT PARISH WEEKEND moves to May 9-11, 2008! Registration forms will be mailed on April 1.

YOUTH CONFIRMATION CLASSES begin on April 2. Youth interested in being confirmed should contact Pastor Mary.

Save the date! The dates for VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL are July 14-18, and once again, we will be teaming with Leesburg Presbyterian Church. Registration forms will be available in May.

ST. GABRIEL’S CHOIR will be presenting a Tenebrae service, “Shadows,” on Tuesday, March 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the St. James’ Nave. All are welcome.

LOST AND FOUND: Have you misplaced something? Check out the Lost and Found box in the Bell Tower. Unclaimed items will be donated to charity this week.

LENTEN DEVOTIONAL: Lenten Day by Day 2008: Scriptural Reflections by St. James’ Parishioners, Age 6-97 is available at the back of the Nave on the Lenten Materials table. This devotional includes reflections and artwork by St. James’ parishioners, and is a helpful daily reading resource for the 40 days of Lent.
