TODAY AT ST. JAMES'

• “WHAT THE BIBLE REALLY SAYS ABOUT_____” Join Fr. Goodness as he leads a discussion about the Biblical views on a range of issues raised by parishioners. 10:10 a.m. in the Old School Building at the corner of Wirt and North Streets.
• INFORMATIONAL SESSION: If you missed last Sunday’s Informational Sessions about the upcoming Congregational Meeting to be held on Sunday, March 30, at 10:00 a.m., please come to a “make-up” Informational Session TODAY after the 11:15 service.
• WELCOME, NEWCOMERS! Join us for our NEWCOMERS ORIENTATION, a brief introduction to St. James’ where you can ask questions, meet other newcomers, and have a brief tour of the buildings in which we worship and gather. 10:00 a.m. in the Janney Parlor.
• SUNDAY SCHOOL: 3-Year-Olds meet in Rittenhouse Room R1; 4-Year-Olds meet in Janney House Room J2; Kindergarten meets in Janney House Room J1; 1st Grade meets in Rittenhouse Room R3; 2nd & 4th Grades meet in Parish Hall; 3rd Grade meets in Parish Library; 5th Grade & Middle School meet in the Old School Building; Senior High will meet in the Catacombs
• YOUTH GROUPS: Middle School is on a ski trip this weekend, so there is no Youth Group today. Senior High: All Senior High youth and 8th graders interested in coming on a youth mission trip this summer will gather tonight in the Parish Hall from 5:30-7:00 p.m. with their parents for a potluck supper. We still have openings for our trips to North Carolina, Gulfport, and West Virginia. We will be talking about fundraising tonight.

• WEDNESDAY, March 12: “DO NOTHING TO CHANGE YOUR LIFE” Join us on from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall (click here for details).
• SATURDAY, March 15: ST. GABRIEL’S SATURDAY NIGHT SERMON SERIES: “Who are you?” Join St. Gabriel’s as we explore who Jesus is and what that tells us about our own identities. St. Gabriel’s Saturday Night Service, Saturdays at 5:30 p.m. in St. James’ Nave. www.saintgabriels.net or (703)779-3616.
• SATURDAY, March 15: THE “GOSPEL OF JOHN” FILM VIEWING: 7:00 p.m.—9:15 p.m. (following St. Gabriel’s Saturday Night Service 5:30-6:30). Begin Holy Week with an overview of Jesus’ ministry with the film, “The Gospel of John.” This faithful and powerful dramatization of the Biblical text meticulously recreates and vividly portrays the era of Jesus that changed the course of history. The evening begins with a simple soup supper in the Parish Hall at 6:30 p.m. The film begins at 7:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary. Childcare provided. CLASSES:

• “BEGINNING THE CHRISTIAN JOURNEY” The third and final class in this series meets on Monday, March 10, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Parish Library (second floor of the Janney House). Childcare is provided.
• “DO NOTHING TO CHANGE YOUR LIFE” Join Rev. Kate on Wednesday, March 12, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for the fourth and last session of this Lenten Bible study. A light supper of hearty soup and crusty bread provided. Childcare is available.
• DISCOVERING ST. JAMES’: Interested in becoming a member of St. James’? Then this class is for you. Held once in the spring, and once in the fall, “Discovering St. James’” will be held on three consecutive Sundays: April 6, April 13, and April 20, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the new Parish House (former Rectory) located at 8 Cornwall Street, adjacent to the Janney House. GROUP ACTIVITES:

• BOOK CLUB: In his delightful and illuminating book, How the Irish Saved Civilization, author Thomas Cahill takes us to the “island of saints and scholars,” the Ireland of St. Patrick and the Book of Kells. Join the St. James’ Book Club when we discuss the pivotal role played by Irish monks in transcribing and preserving Classical civilization during Europe’s Dark Ages on Thursday, March 13, at 7:00 p.m., in the Janney Parlor. • HANDS-ON OUTREACH: The Hands-On Outreach team is investigating how we might create a literacy/arts program and turn it into a St. James’ outreach opportunity. • SPRING CLEAN UP DAY IS COMING! Come join George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Barack Obama, the New York Yankees, and the Property Committee at the 99th Annual St. James’ Spring Clean-up Day (well, maybe not the 99th) on Saturday, April 12, starting at 8:30 a.m. Celebrities will sign autographs for everyone bringing a rake, work gloves, and a real desire to work. Fabulous refreshments will be provided. Rumor has it that Rev. Kate will have her dog, Maggie, perform retrieving tricks for entertainment. See you on April 12!
• DO YOU HAVE A KNACK WITH FLOWERS? The Altar Guild will be offering a class on how to arrange flowers for the altar for anyone interested in joining the Altar Guild and becoming a flower arranger. There are experienced flower arrangers on all teams who will continue to work with you until you are ready to solo. If interested, contact Kathleen White through the Church Office at (703)777-1124.
• KIDS WITH PURPOSE are out to “change” the world… and we mean change. We are collecting donations through March 12 for a Home Depot gift card to help victims of Hurricane Katrina that will be sent with the St. James’ mission trip. If you have loose change that you would like to contribute, please find our bank located in the Narthex.

YOUTH GROUPS:

• Our Middle Schoolers will be taking a MISSION TRIP to Jarret, VA, April 11 & 12. Friday, April 11, is a public school holiday. We will be building and planting a garden at the Jackson-Feild home for girls. If you are interested in joining us as a youth missioner or adult sponsor, please contact Pastor Mary.
• All Middle Schoolers are invited to be readers in the GOOD FRIDAY STATIONS OF THE CROSS service at 6:00 p.m. If you would like to have a reading part, please contact Pastor Mary.
• SENIOR HIGH WEEKEND AT SHRINE MONT is March 28-30. If you’d like to join us for a weekend of singing, hanging out, playing, and hiking, please contact Pastor Mary. Cost is $120, and scholarships are available.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

• SHRINE MONT PARISH WEEKEND moves to May 9-11, 2008! Registration forms will be mailed on April 1.
• YOUTH CONFIRMATION CLASSES begin on April 2. Youth interested in being confirmed should contact Pastor Mary.
• Save the date! The dates for VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL are July 14-18, and once again, we will be teaming with Leesburg Presbyterian Church. Registration forms will be available in May.
• ST. GABRIEL’S CHOIR will be presenting a Tenebrae service, “Shadows,” on Tuesday, March 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the St. James’ Nave. All are welcome.
• ATTENTION ALL PHOTOGRAPHERS: We are currently gathering pictures for the new church directory and would like to include as many of the St. James’ ministries and gatherings as possible. If you have pictures that we can use for the directory, please bring copies and leave them in the Church Office labeled “church directory.” If you have any questions please feel free to contact Kim Stribling through the Church Office at (703)777-1124.
• LOST AND FOUND: Have you misplaced something? Check out the Lost and Found box in the Bell Tower. Unclaimed items will be donated to charity this week.

• LENTEN DEVOTIONAL: Lenten Day by Day 2008: Scriptural Reflections by St. James’ Parishioners, Age 6-97 is available at the back of the Nave on the Lenten Materials table. This devotional includes reflections and artwork by St. James’ parishioners, and is a helpful daily reading resource for the 40 days of Lent.
