Extended Healing Rail:  The Healing Team will offer an extended healing rail today immediately after the 11:15 a.m. service.  Please come for your own needs or as an intercessor for those you have on your heart or mind.  All are welcome.

Contemplative Prayer Group formation meeting will be held today at 12:30 p.m., in the Janney Parlor.  Traditionally called contemplative prayer, centering prayer is a method of prayer which prepares us to receive the gift of God’s presence by consenting to God’s presence and action within, furthers the development of contemplative prayer by quieting our faculties to cooperate with the gift of God’s presence, and emphasizes prayer as a personal relationship with God.  Contact Henry Stribling through the Church Office at (703)777-1124 for more information.

Youth Groups will not meet today.  We’ll resume meeting next Sunday.

Do you still have palms left over from last year’s Palm Sunday service? Bring them to church and place them in the basket in the back of the Nave.  We will collect them until February 3. They are burned and become the ashes used for Ash Wednesday.

The Church Office will be closed on Monday, January 21, in observance of the Martin Luther King holiday. We will reopen on Tuesday, January 22.

2008 Pledge Envelopes are here!  You may pick up your boxes of 2008 pledge envelopes from the tables at the back of the church behind the pews.  If you do not find your box or if you would like to request a box of pledge envelopes, please contact Sheri Nelson, Financial Administrator, at (703)777-1124 ext. 109 or sheri@stjamesleesburg.org.

Summer Camps at Shrine Mont:  On Sunday, January 27, from 10:15-11:15, in the Sanctuary, Paris Ball will be on hand to talk about Summer Camps at Shrine Mont. Paris is the Assistant Program Director for the Diocese of Virginia, and she is a fountain of knowledge about all of the Diocese’s summer camps. She will have registration forms on hand.

Middle School Youth Group will head to the mountains of West Virginia for its annual ski trip on February 1-3. Cost is $140, and we will stay at the home of Ken & Bonnie Getty (and rent one additional condo). Please contact Pastor Mary to sign up.  We still need a few more adult chaperones.

Newcomers, Save the Date!  Our Newcomer Coffees are recommencing after our break for the Christmas holidays.  We extend to all of you a warm welcome to St. James’, and an invitation to join us in the Janney Parlor on Sunday, February 3, at 10:15 a.m.  It is your special coffee time when you can meet clergy and fellow parishioners, receive an informative Welcome packet, and ask your questions.

Book Club:  John Bul Dau is a Dinka from Southern Sudan and one of thousands of Lost Boys who fled their homeland during Sudanese civil war.  He chronicles his harrowing tale of survival in the inspiring autobiography, God Grew Tired of Us.  Join the St. James’ Book Club when we discuss this moving memoir Thursday, February 14, at 7:00 p.m. in the Janney Parlor.  All are welcome!  Please bring a snack or beverage to share.  Contact Mary Pellicano through the Church Office at (703)777-1124 for more information.

Start Spreading the News:  Our Senior High Youth Group is heading to New York City February 15-17! We will stay at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, tour the city, and see “The Lion King.” All of our youth spots are filled, but we could use a few more adult chaperones. If you are interested in joining us, contact Pastor Mary at (703)777-1124 or mary@stjamesleesburg.org.

Save the date: Shrine Mont Parish Weekend moves to May 9-11, 2008! More details to follow!

Summer Youth Mission Trips:  Plans are in the works for our summer youth mission trips. Final dates will be published at the end of January, but if you are an adult who is interested in joining us for a trip to North Carolina, West Virginia, Gulfport, MS, or rural Virginia, contact with Pastor Mary.

We have set Baptism dates from now through July, and the baptisms are preceded by a four-part preparation class held on Sunday mornings.  Parents are welcome to attend the classes even before their baby comes home.  For more information or to sign up, contact Pastor Mary.

St. James’ Preschool 2008-2009 Registration:  Deadlines for registration are:  February 8 for St. James’ & St. Gabriel’s active members; February 15 for returning students and their siblings; February 22 for graduating student siblings, alumni, and community members.  Please note:  A non-refundable application fee of $100.00 applies.

Now Hiring:  The Nursery is now hiring dependable adults to work in the nursery during the 9:00 and 11:15 Sunday services. Schedule can be flexible and pay is terrific.  For more information, contact Dawn Stejbach through the Church Office at (703)777-1124.

Help Your Neighbor:  Even though the holidays are over, hunger still exists in Loudoun County.  Interfaith Relief is in need of non-perishable food items, especially fruit juice, canned fruit, and macaroni and cheese.  Please leave the items for donation in the Narthex for pick-up.

Prayer Shawl Ministry:  Interested in knitting or crocheting a prayer shawl for someone in need of comfort or solace as well as celebration and joy? Contact Rev. Kate for patterns/directions at (703) 777-1124 or kate@stjamesleesburg.org.

Morning Prayer (Rite I) is prayed every Friday morning at 8:30 a.m. in the Choir.  Take 30 minutes at the beginning of each Friday to share with fellow worshippers the experience of common prayers of penitence, praise and thanksgiving in a small and intimate setting.  All are welcome!

Kids With Purpose

2008 Winter Session

Happy New Year from KWP!  We are bubbling over with enthusiasm for our next session which will start January 23, and will end before Spring Break.  Each season seems to bring many new and returning faces, and we’re happy to see them all!

Children seem to be in the groove of volunteering their time to make the world a better place.  KWP exposes them to many different needs, including literacy, autism, Loudoun Free Clinic, Solar Light for Africa, New Orleans, seniors, homeless shelters, Interfaith Relief, Ida Lee, animals, and more.  We hope to inspire children to look around them, recognize the needs of others, and to help make a difference. They have done a fabulous job! Please email us at KWPstjames@aol.com if you know of a group who could use our help.

Registration will be open to the community from January 14—21.  Please email any questions you have to KWPstjames@aol.com.

Thank you for your support!!!

To Register:

Pick-up a KWP Registration packet in the Narthex.

Return to the Church Office along with check ($30 plus $5 if t-shirt needs to be ordered) by Monday, January 21.

Returning students from Fall 2007 only need to fill the blue sheet and submit to the Church Office with their check of $30.
