Kids With Purpose

2008 Winter Session

Happy New Year from KWP!  We are bubbling over with enthusiasm for our next session which will start January 23, and will end before Spring Break.  Each season seems to bring many new and returning faces, and we’re happy to see them all!

Children seem to be in the groove of volunteering their time to make the world a better place.  KWP exposes them to many different needs, including literacy, autism, Loudoun Free Clinic, Solar Light for Africa, New Orleans, seniors, homeless shelters, Interfaith Relief, Ida Lee, animals, and more.  We hope to inspire children to look around them, recognize the needs of others, and to help make a difference. They have done a fabulous job! Please email us at KWPstjames@aol.com if you know of a group who could use our help.

St. James’ parishioners and are able to register early for KWP between January 7–13.  KWP children returning from Fall 2007 are also eligible for early registration.  Registration will be open to the community from January 14—21.  Please email any questions you have to KWPstjames@aol.com.

Thank you for your support!!!

To Register:

·         Pick-up a KWP Registration packet in the Narthex.

·         Return to the Church Office along with check ($30 plus $5 if t-shirt needs to be ordered) between January 7–13 for priority registration.

·         Returning students from Fall 2007 only need to fill the blue sheet and submit to the Church Office with their check of $30.

·         We will also have a registration table in the Narthex on Sunday, January 13, from 10:00—11:00 a.m.  Forms can also be filled in at that time.

Living in the Spirit:

Being alive vs. truly living

How many of us get up every morning and feel fully alive?

Sure, we have breath, but are we living?  Or do we feel dead, like we’re just going through the motions of living?

We all have breath – we get through the days pretty well — but we’re not really living.  We’re not inspired, or motivated, or engaged — there is no evidence that a Spirit is blowing through us.

But God is a god of the living, and wants us to feel and to be alive – for the Spirit to move us, to empower us, to bring us back to life.

Today we begin a new three-part sermon and Adult Forum series “Living in the Spirit,” an exploration of what it takes to truly live.

Today, Sunday January 13: “Is the past a launching pad or a tar pit for you?”

Sermon:  Pastor Mary

Adult Forum (10:10 a.m.):  Fr. John

Next Sunday, January 20: “Why ‘Living in the Present’ is important, but overrated.”

Sermon:  Rev. Kate

Adult Forum:  Rev. Kate

Sunday, January 26: “Why it’s good to have both GPS and a rear-view mirror, not only in your car, but in your church and in your life”

Sermon:  Fr. John

Adult Forum:  Pastor Mary
