Today at St. James’

¨      Adult Forum:  Conversion as a Continuing Process (Acts 9-10)  Conversion is often seen as something that is moral in nature, happens only to nonbelievers, and is a once-in-a-lifetime event.  Acts shows, however, that conversion is a continuous call to service and action.  Come hear what conversion is really about.  Adult Forum runs from 10:10 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the Old School Building, at the corner of Wirt and North Streets.

¨      Baptism Preparation Class for the November 4 Baptism date.  From 10:10-11:00 a.m. in the Breakout Room of the Old School Building.

¨      Sunday School:  3-Year-Olds — Rittenhouse Room R1; 4-Year-Olds — Janney House Room J2; Kindergarten — Janney House Room J1; 1st Grade — Rittenhouse Room R3; 2nd & 4th Grades — Parish Hall; 3rd Grade — Parish Library; 5th Grade — Rev. Kate’s & Pastor Mary’s Office; Middle School — Old School Building; Senior High — Catacombs

¨      Healing Rail: During the 11:15 service, and on occasion at the 7:45 and 9:00 services, the laying on of hands and anointing with holy oil is offered to everyone during the administration of Communion. Kneelers are located in front of the lectern (forward and to your left). Please come for your own needs or as an intercessor for others.

¨      Youth Groups will meet today at Ida Lee from 5:00-7:30, during the Victory Dinner! We’ll head to the gym to play games, including wallyball! See you there!

Daylight Saving Time ends—Reminder… Daylight Savings Time ends on Sunday, November 4.  On Saturday evening, November 3, remember to turn your clocks back.  If you forget, you'll be an hour early for church the next day.

Annual Giving Campaign

We conclude our Annual Giving Campaign with a potluck “Victory Dinner” at Ida Lee Rec Center, tonight at 5:00 p.m. – see the orange insert!

All Saints’ Day Service:  In the past year, has someone near to you died? All Saints’ Day, celebrated on November 4 this year, is a day to celebrate all of God’s saints, both the living and the dead. On November 4, at all services, we will remember by name those who have died in the past year, those whom Scripture refers to as our “great cloud of witnesses.” If you would like to add a friend or family member to the list of those being remembered in our All Saints’ Day services, please call the Church Office at (703)777-1124 or email us at info@stjamesleesburg.org.

Katrina III Adult Mission trip will be departing for New Orleans, Louisiana, on November 2 and returning November 6. We continue to reach out and aid those whom still suffer in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in the New Orleans area. If you would like to participate please contact Ken Getty or Diana Vincent through the Church Office at (703)777-1124 ASAP.

Flu Shots at St. James’:  INOVA Mobile Health Services will provide flu shots on November 4 from 11:00 a.m. — 2:00 p.m. in the Parish Library on the second floor of the Janney House.  Flu shots are available on a first come, first served basis for $25 from age 4 (children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent) to adulthood.  Senior citizens with a valid Medicare Part B may receive the shot for free.  For more information, call (703)204-3325.

St. James’ Fall Clean Up Day - Saturday, November 10, from 8:45 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (rain makeup date Saturday, November 17)  Please join the Property Committee, Kids With Purpose, the St. James’ Youth Groups, and your fellow parishioners for the St. James’ Fall Clean Up Day.  There will be plenty of food and fellowship to go along with the hard work of cleaning and sprucing up St. James’.  Meet at 8:45 a.m. in the parking lot with your rakes, work gloves, pitch forks, shovels, etc.  Bring the entire family - we have more than enough work—and food!— for all ages.

Join the St. James Book Club as we enjoy a pre-Thanksgiving feast and discuss the classic novella, Babette’s Feast, on Thursday, November 15.  In Isak Dinesen’s modern fable, a mysterious Frenchwoman prepares a sumptuous dinner for a gathering of religious ascetics and, in doing so, introduces them to the true essence of grace.  We will meet at 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Library to discuss themes and view the video. (Please note change in date and venue.) All are welcome!  Please bring a snack or beverage to share.  Contact Mary Pellicano through the Church Office at (703)777-1124 for more information.

St. James’ Preschool currently has openings for children in their 2 1/2- and 3-year-old programs.  Contact the Preschool office at (703) 777-8439 for more information.

Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes will be collected in the Narthex starting next Sunday, November 4.  All parishioners are welcome to join in this effort to fill shoeboxes (with toys, candy, hygiene items) for needy children throughout the world.  St. James’ Sunday School classes decorated shoeboxes on the first day of class this year to take home and fill for children their age.  Brochures with instructions for packing a shoebox are available three places: (1) as a bulletin insert today, (2) on the Outreach table in the Narthex, or (3) at www.samaritanspurse.org/OCC.  Filled boxes should be returned by November 11, as we will begin delivering them to the local collection point on November 12.

Spaces are limited, so be sure and make your reservation soon to have your picture taken. (Pictures ordered by December 11 will be delivered in time for Christmas—they make great presents!) You may reserve your picture date and time by accessing the link through www.stjamesleesburg.org. There will also be a sign-up table available in the Narthex after each service beginning Sunday, November 4.  Additional dates will be available in January if needed but we encourage everyone to sign up in December so that they may have the pictures back in time for the holiday.

Did you know that you can get these announcements electronically each Friday? If you’d like to subscribe to our weekly “E-Pistle,” containing an electronic link to the Announcements along with a brief inspirational or informational message from one of the clergy, give your email address to the Church Office at (703)777-1124 or info@stjamesleesburg.org.
