Today at St. James’

¨       Welcome, Newcomers!   Interested in learning about St. James’?  The St. James’ Newcomers’ Orientation is a great chance to make a connection with St. James’, ask questions, meet other newcomers, and find out more. Join us from 10:10 to 11:00 a.m. in the School Board Administration Building, which is located across the street from our Parish Hall, at the corners of Wirt and North Streets.

¨       Adult Forum:  Today’s topic: “Faith without Works is Dead”  Faith is as much what we DO as what we BELIEVE. In other words, we are called to put our faith into action. Over the summer, members of St. James’ did just that: engaged in hands-on outreach projects in places ranging from the Gulf Coast to West Virginia to North Carolina, even Africa!  Hear stories and see pictures of how the lives of St. James’ adults and youth were transformed, how they transformed the lives of others, and how you can be involved as well.  Adult Forum begins runs from 10:10 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the Old School Building, corner of Wirt and North Streets.

¨       Healing Rail: During the 11:15 service, and on occasion at the 7:45 and 9:00 services, the laying on of hands and anointing with holy oil is offered to everyone during the administration of Communion. Kneelers are located in front of the lectern (forward and to your left). Please come for your own needs or as an intercessor for those you have on your heart or mind.

¨       Oktoberfest:  Join us today following the 11:15 service in the lower half of our parking lot for a somewhat-authentic German brat- n’ biergarten!

¨       Katrina III:  The third St. James’ mission trip to assist the residents of New Orleans recover from Katrina is scheduled for November 2-6, 2007. All interested in participating please plan to attend an organizational and information meeting following the 11:15 service today in the Janney Parlor.

¨       Youth Groups:  Middle School Youth Group will meet at St. James’ from 4:30-6:00 p.m. today. Senior High Youth Group: 6:00 p.m.—7:30 p.m. at the Shankles’. Meet there or take the St. James’ shuttle which leaves the church parking lot promptly at 6:00 p.m.

A Couples Bible Study Group under Jim & Nancy Quinn’s leadership begins on Tuesday, September 25, at their home, with an exploration of the Gospel of Luke.  For more information, please contact Nancy at the Church Office at (703)777-1124.

Pizza with a Purpose continues September 26.  This Wednesday night program for youth was a huge hit last year, and it’s back again this year. PwP is kinda Bible study, kinda “this is what’s happening at school,” kinda “this is the kind of music I like,” and somehow, we tie it all in! Pastors Mary and Jeunée lead the program which meets on Wednesdays from 6:30-8:00 p.m.  Senior High: Catacombs and Middle School: Parish Hall.  No need to sign up, just show up.  Don’t worry if you missed the first gathering….come anytime.

The next 20s/30s dinner will take place at the home of Didi & Tim Hays, on Thursday, September 27, at 7:00 p.m. The theme is “tailgate,” which means that we are to bring food that one would eat while tailgating. To sign up to be on our 20s/30s evite list, please contact Pastor Mary at mary@stjamesleesburg.org.

The Good Grief Support Group will begin meeting again on Wednesday, October 10, at 7:30 p.m., in the Janney Parlor.  The group meets on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month.  For further information, please contact Bill Newland at (703)737-6196.

Got maps? Join the Fellowship Events Committee and your fellow parishioners for the Third Annual St. James’ Road Rally, on Sunday, October 14. Be prepared to traverse the back roads of Loudoun, enjoy the turning leaves, get your car filthy, and solve vicious clues prepared by George Pellicano.  The first car will depart the church parking lot at 1:00 p.m. sharp.  Refreshments will be served at the end of the rally.  RSVP to George, Page Moffett or the Church Office at (703)777-1124.

Join the St. James’ Book Club by participating in Loudoun County Public Library’s One Book - One Community program.  We will meet Thursday, October 18, at 7:00 p.m. in the Janney Parlor to discuss The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.  Narrated by Death himself, this astounding novel tells the tale of a girl whose terrifying existence in Nazi Germany is redeemed only through the power of words.  Please bring a snack or beverage to share.  Contact Mary Pellicano at the Church Office at (703)777-1124 for more information.

Mark your calendar for the Annual Victory Celebration at Ida Lee to be held this year on Sunday, October 28, 5:00 - 7:30 p.m.

Float Builder Needed:  For the past few years, St. James’ youth have participated in the annual Halloween Parade sponsored by Ida Lee. The youth are capable float painters, but the actual building of the float takes someone with a little bit of carpentry knowledge. We have an idea for a theme (top secret!), but we need a builder. If you are interested, contact Pastor Mary. The date of the parade is Halloween night Wednesday, October 31.

Saturday Night Service Coming Soon:  We are now actively recruiting those who would like to be part of the new St. Gabriel’s Saturday night service held at 5:30 Saturday evening at St. James’. If you are interested in participating in this “come-as-you-are, family-friendly” service as, a) a regular worshipper, able to give us regular feedback in the early weeks of the new service, or b) part of the launch team to “make it all happen” (music team, leadership, creative ideas, etc.), contact Pastor Jeunée at pastor@saintgabriels.net or (703) 609-1818.

Will you host a Coffee Hour? The ministry of hospitality is one of the most important things we do on Sunday mornings. If you can help extend a warm welcome to newcomers, old-timers — and everyone in between — please contact Rev. Kate at the Church Office at (703)777-1124 or kate@stjamesleesburg.org to volunteer as a coffee hour host.

Curious about acolyting?  Acolytes (those who serve at the altar on Sunday mornings) have an important role assisting with worship at all three services, as well as special services during Christmas and Easter.  Training for new acolytes begins in September.  Contact Dottie Brannock at the Church Office at (703)777-1124 for information.
