Welcome! Today is our annual
giving campaign’s Ministry Fair. This is your single-best chance to meet the
ministry leaders of St. James’ and find ways to become involved in the work God
is doing in our midst. The Ministry Fair follows each of the three services,
and is located in the North Street School Building. Click here for a map of the Ministry Fair.
¨
Sunday School for 3-year-olds through 5th
grade resumes today, and runs concurrently with the
Ministry Fair (10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.)
¨
Middle School and High School youth are invited
to attend the Ministry Fair. Sunday school for those grades will resume next
week.
Youth Group will
begin next Sunday, September 16, with a cookout for each age group. Middle School Youth Group (grades
6-8) will meet at Ken & Bonnie Getty’s home. We will meet at St. James’ at
3:30 p.m., and return at 6:00 p.m. Senior High Youth Group (grades 9-12)
will meet at Lollie & Ivey Shankle’s home, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. You can either go straight there or catch a
ride in the parking lot at St. James’ at 6:00 p.m.
The “regular” times for Youth Group, beginning
September 23, are:
¨
Middle School: 4:30-6:00 p.m. at St. James’
¨
Senior High: 6:00-7:30 p.m. at the Shankles’
house
Oktoberfest is
coming soon. Did you know that each
year in late September, the lower half of our parking lot transforms into a
somewhat-authentic German brat- n’ biergarten? Please join Sunday, September
23, following the 11:15 service. If
you can help with food, set up or tear down, that is an ausgezeichnet way
to help your church, and to get to know your fellow parishioners. Contact the Church Office for more
details: info@stjamesleesburg.org, or
(703) 777-1124.
A Couples Bible Study
Group is starting in the Fall: Jim & Nancy
Quinn are forming a small group Bible study for couples. We plan to start
later in September. For more information, please contact Nancy through the Church
Office at (703)777-1124.
Children’s
Choir registration begins today — please visit their table
at the Ministry Fair today for more information.
St.
James’ Book Club: Part
travelogue, part spiritual journey, bestselling book Eat, Pray, Love: One
Woman’s Search for Everything across Italy, India and Indonesia, invites
the reader to accompany globe-trotting author Elizabeth Gilbert on her quest of
soul-searching and self-discovery. Join
the St. James’ Book Club as we discuss this lively memoir on Thursday,
September 13, at 7:00 p.m. in the Janney Parlor. Please bring a snack or beverage to
share. Contact Mary Pellicano through
the Church Office at (703)777-1124 for more information. (Want to get a head start on next month’s
book? We’ll be reading The Book
Thief by Markus Zusak in October.)
The Good Grief Support
Group will begin meeting again on Wednesday,
October 10, at 7:30 p.m., in the Janney Parlor. The group meets on the second and fourth
Wednesdays of the month. For further
information, please contact Bill Newland at (703)737-6196.
Operation Shoebox
will take place once again this year, and we need empty shoeboxes. The children of St. James’ fill the boxes
and send them overseas as Christmas gifts for underprivileged youth. Please leave your empty boxes to St James’
on the Outreach table in the Narthex.
Will you host a Coffee
Hour? The ministry of hospitality is one of the most
important things we do on Sunday mornings. If you can help extend a warm
welcome to newcomers, old-timers — and everyone in between — please contact
Rev. Kate at the Church Office at (703)777-1124 or kate@stjamesleesburg.org to
volunteer as a coffee hour host.
Curious about
acolyting? Acolytes
(those who serve at the altar on Sunday mornings) have an important role
assisting with worship at all three services, as well as special services
during Christmas and Easter.
¨
Jr. Acolytes begin Grades 4-5 (9:00 service
only)
¨
Torchbearers begin Grades 6-12
¨
Crucifers begin Grades 9-12
Interested in training to be an Acolyte or just
want information? Contact Dottie Brannock through the Church Office at
(703)777-1124.
New EfM (Education for
Ministry) classes will be forming in September, and
existing classes may have room for new additions. For more information or to sign up, please contact Alecia
Moroz through the Church Office at (703)777-1124. Registration forms are also available in the Church Office.
Interested in participating in a Prayer Shawl Ministry? A love of
knitting and crocheting is combined into a prayerful ministry and spiritual
practice which reaches out to those in need of comfort or solace as well as
celebration and joy. Many blessings are prayed into every shawl. Shawls can be
used by those undergoing medical procedures, during illness and recovery, or
bereavement. If you’d like to get help get a prayer shawl ministry started here
at St. James’, please contact Rev. Kate for more information.
Saturday Night Service
Coming Soon: Our
congregational surveys indicated a strong enough interest in starting a
Saturday Night Service that we are now actively recruiting those who would like
to be part of this new effort. The St.
Gabriel’s-sponsored service would be held at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday evenings at
St. James’. The service would definitely
be informal and family-friendly; other details are being worked out by the steering
committee. Interested? Contact Pastor Jeunée at (703)779-3616 or
pastor@saintgabriels.net.
Healing Rail:
During the 11:15 service, and on occasion at the 7:45 and 9:00 services, the laying
on of hands and anointing with holy oil is offered to everyone during the
administration of Communion. Kneelers are located in front of the lectern
(forward and to your left). Please come for your own needs or as an intercessor
for those you have on your heart or mind.
