¨       Newcomer? No matter who you are, or where you are in your faith journey, you are welcome here. After the service, please join us in the Parish Hall for a cup of coffee or — weather permitting — outside the Bell Tower for lemonade and iced tea.

¨       Adult Forum and Sunday School, usually meeting at 10:10 each Sunday, are both taking a much-deserved Sabbath rest for the summer.

¨       Healing Rail: During the 11:15 service, and on occasion at the 7:45 and 9:00 services, the laying on of hands and anointing with holy oil is offered to everyone either before or after receiving Communion. Kneelers are located in front of the lectern (forward and to your left). Please come for your own needs or as an intercessor for those you have on your heart or mind.

Parish Database Update:  By now you should have received a copy of the parish database information we currently have on file for you.  Please review your information, make the necessary corrections or changes, and return it to the Church Office in the envelope provided.  (Please ignore some of the fields, such as “SSN” and “Misconduct Prevention.” These are used for employees and volunteers, and the software did not allow us to delete them from the profiles!) Thank you!

Adult Mission Trip:  There are still openings left for our adult mission trip to Keystone, WV.  Rev. Kate, Ken Getty, and Kirk and Renee Hawn will lead the trip from Sunday, July 15, to Saturday, July 21, to repair the Old Highland Education Project house.  Much of the work will involve cleaning and painting.  St. James’ commitment to support the Rev. Hilda Kennedy and the Highland Education Project goes back several years.  Join us in transforming the lives of others—and be transformed.  For more information, contact Ken Getty at the Church Office at (703)777-1124.

Overight Host Families Needed: Solar Light for Africa needs a family to provide overnight accommodation for a youth mission team member on July 11.  The mission team will leave from Dulles on July 12, returning on July 28.  No meals are needed, just a bed!  Contact Carol Hathaway at the Church Office at (703)777-1124.

Vacation Bible School (VBS): For everyone who is registered for VBS, please arrive at 8:30 a.m., on Monday, July 9, at Leesburg Presbyterian Church, so we can complete paperwork and get going! Also, please come with a pair of sunglasses in hand!

The pantry at Interfaith Relief is experiencing a shortage of the following: macaroni & cheese, canned pasta/sauce, 100% juice in plastic or cans, and school supplies. Donations may be dropped off at St. James’ or, because VBS is participating in Interfaith Relief, at Leesburg Presbyterian Church. The last day of VBS is “fresh produce Friday” ...fruits and vegetables are also in short supply, and this will be the day all our donations are delivered. Thank you!

Registration forms are now available for our Middle School Outreach Camp, which will take place August 27-30. We are teaming up with St. Mary’s, Arlington, for four days of hands-on outreach in the community. The cost is $25, and the camp is open to rising 6th-8th graders. You can get a form online or in the Narthex.

The Good Grief Support Group will not meet again until September. Anyone who wishes to talk to someone in the meantime is welcome to call Bill Newland or Bob Pirie at the Church Office at (703)777-1124.

Audio Ministry Expanding: From time to time we have recorded sermons preached from the St. James’ pulpit and transferred them to CDs for listening by parishioners after the Sunday services. If you’re interested in helping to expand this ministry, we’d like to hear from you. Please contact Marnie Montgomery at the Church Office at (703)777-1124.

On the Horizon at St. James’

Sunday, July 15

¨       The 20s/30s Group will gather at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 15, for a cookout at Darrin Myers’ house. Darrin is providing everything, so just bring yourself… and a friend! You can sign up using our group e-vite or with Pastor Mary.

Sunday, July 22

¨       St. James' Day Celebration: We celebrate the feast day of our patron saint, St. James, with an all-parish pig roast after the 10:00 a.m. service (please note: the 9:00 & 11:15 services are combined at 10:00 that day.)  This is a special day in the life of our parish, so save the date on your calendar!  Volunteering for set-up or tear-down is a great way to get “a little more involved” in your church, so if you’re interested, please let us know by calling the Church Office at (703)777-1124.

July 14 through January 13

¨       The Virginia Historical Society (428 North Boulevard, Richmond, Virginia 23220; Phone: 804-358-4901) exhibit:  The Episcopal Church in Virginia, 1607–2007 The first Jamestown colonists brought with them the liturgy, theology, and administrative practices of the Church of England. As part of the government of Virginia until the Revolution, or as one of many churches serving Virginians after 1776, the Anglican/Episcopal Church has played an important role as a “middle way” between cultural extremes. This commemorative exhibition includes rare objects and interesting images of buildings and services. It also profiles people of shared faith, in a denomination marked by strong traditions, struggling to adapt to an ever-changing world.
