Newcomer? No
matter who you are, or where you are in your faith journey, you are welcome
here. After the service, please join us in the Parish Hall for a cup of coffee
or — weather permitting — outside the Bell Tower for lemonade and iced tea. At
10:15 this morning, join us in the Janney Parlor for our Newcomers’ Coffee for
refreshments, friendly chats, and welcome materials. This is also an opportunity to ask questions as well as meet our
clergy and parishioners.
¨
Adult Forum and
Sunday School, usually
meeting at 10:10 each Sunday, are both taking a much-deserved Sabbath rest for
the summer.
¨
Healing Rail:
During the 11:15 service, and on occasion at the 7:45 and 9:00 services, the laying
on of hands and anointing with holy oil is offered to everyone during the
administration of Communion. Kneelers are located in front of the lectern
(forward and to your left). Please come for your own needs or as an intercessor
for those you have on your heart or mind.
Parish Database Update: Maintaining the parish database to make sure
we have accurate information is a summer priority for the church office
staff. In the next few weeks,
parishioners will receive a copy of the information we currently have on file
for you. When you get your mailing,
please review your information, make the necessary corrections or changes, and
return it to the Church Office in the envelope provided. Thank you!
Happy Fourth of
July! The
Church Office will be closed on Wednesday, July 4, in celebration of
Independence Day. We will reopen at
9:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 5.
Adult Mission
Trip: There
are still openings left for our adult mission trip to Keystone, WV. Rev. Kate, Ken Getty, and Kirk and Renee
Hawn will lead the trip from Sunday, July 15, to Saturday, July 21, to repair
the Old Highland Education Project house.
Much of the work will involve cleaning and painting. St. James’ commitment to support the Rev.
Hilda Kennedy and the Highland Education Project goes back several years. Join us in transforming the lives of
others—and be transformed. For more
information, contact Ken Getty at the Church Office at (703)777-1124.
Vacation Bible School
Registration: For everyone who is participating in VBS, please
arrive on Monday, July 9, at 8:30 a.m., so we can get registration going! Also,
please come with a pair of sunglasses in hand!
Vacation Bible School is
in need of some supplies, namely the following:
¨
Toilet paper tubes
¨
Christmas tree or rope lights (please label your
strands if you want the returned with name and phone number)
¨
Old cell phones (we will donate to charity when
VBS is over)
¨
A refrigerator box
Please leave all donations the VBS box in the
Narthex. Thank you!
Registration forms are now available for our Middle School Outreach Camp, which
will take place August 27-30. We are teaming up with St. Mary’s, Arlington, for
four days of hands-on outreach in the community. The cost is $25, and the camp
is open to rising 6th-8th graders. You can get a form online or in the Narthex.
Overight Host Families
Needed: Solar Light for Africa needs
a family to provide overnight accommodation for youth mission team member on
July 11. The mission team will leave
from Dulles on July 12, returning on July 28.
No meals are needed, just a bed!
Contact Carol Hathaway at (571)246-1589.
Request for Food: With school letting out for the summer,
children are not being fed at school, and so requests for food at Interfaith
Relief’s food pantry increase over the summer months. Especially needed are cereal, juice and fruit. If you are a gardener, please consider
donating some of your “crop,” so that families in need can have fresh fruit and
vegetables. You may leave food
donations on the stage in the Parish Hall to be picked up by Interfaith Relief
on Sundays or donate to Interfaith Relief directly, Monday through Friday, 9:30
a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Loudoun Interfaith
Relief was established in 1991 by dedicated and compassionate volunteers
from area churches who were united by a commitment to offer support and
solutions to the working poor and homeless.
Audio Ministry
Expanding: From time to time we have recorded sermons
preached from the St. James’ pulpit and transferred them to CDs for listening
by parishioners after the Sunday services. If you’re interested in helping to
expand this ministry, we’d like to hear from you. Please contact Marnie
Montgomery at the Church Office at (703)777-1124.
The Good Grief Support
Group will not meet again until September. Anyone who
wishes to talk to someone in the meantime is welcome to call Bill Newland or
Bob Pirie at the Church Office at (703)777-1124.
Morning Prayer (Rite
I) is prayed every Friday morning at 8:30 a.m. in the choir area of the
church. All are welcome.

The 20s/30s Group will gather at 6:00
p.m. on Sunday, July 15, for a cookout at Darrin Myers’ house. Darrin is
providing everything, so just bring yourself… and a friend! You can sign up
using our group e-vite or with Pastor Mary.

St. James' Day Celebration: We
celebrate the feast day of our patron saint, St. James, with an all-parish pig
roast after the 10:00 a.m. service (please note: the 9:00 & 11:15 services
are combined at 10:00 that day.) This
is a special day in the life of our parish, so save the date on your
calendar! Volunteering for set-up or
tear-down is a great way to get “a little more involved” in your church, so if
you’re interested, please let us know by calling the Church Office at
(703)777-1124.
